We are a small group of avid readers who are happy to read a range of books – please come and join us even if you do not get the time to read all the books we choose. We are happy to receive recommendations, so if you have read a particularly good book, please do get in touch.
We would like to recommend The Names by Florence Knapp – this is a fantastic debut novel that follows three alternate versions of a child’s life over 35 years, showing how a mother’s single decision, what name to give her newborn son, profoundly shapes identity, safety and destiny for an entire family.
Our next recommendation is Vianne by Joanne Harris which traces the childhood and young adulthood of Vianne Rocher as she is shaped by restless travel, inherited magic and loss, becoming the woman who will one day arrive in Lansquenet with chocolate.
Our third recommendation is Secret of Secrets by Dan Brown which follows symbologist Robert Langdon as he races across Prague and beyond to uncover dangerous truths about human consciousness – this book is still in hardback.
We will meet again in early July – if you would like to join us please contact Alison McGarr on 07792 107152.
