Book Club

We are a small group of avid readers who are happy to read a range of books – please come and join us even if you do not get the time to read all the books we choose. We are happy to receive recommendations, so if you have read a particularly good book, please do get in touch.

Our first recommendation is The Lost Book Shop by Evie Woods, it is a dual-time novel set in Dublin where a mysterious book shop connects three characters, one from the 1920s and two from the present as they each seek escape, healing and the power of lost stories.

A book that comes highly recommended is Shy Creatures by Clare Chambers, the story takes place in 1964 Croydon and follows an art therapist who encounters a silent yet gifted patient at a psychiatric hospital.

Our third book is What You Are Looking For Is In The Library by Michiko Aoyama – this is five interconnected stories set in Tokyo, each centred around a visitor to Hatori Community House’s Library.

Our blast from the past is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee – a coming-of-age classic set in the racially segregated American South.

We meet 3-4 times a year for a meal and a lively discussion about the books we have read. There is no pressure to read all the books as we dip in and out depending on our own busy schedules. We are meeting again in October if you would like to join us.

Please contact Alison McGarr on 07792 107152 if you would like to recommend a book or join us when we next meet.
