Book Club

We are a small group of avid readers who are happy to read a range of books – please come and join us even if you do not get the time to read all the books we choose. We are happy to receive recommendations, so if you have read a particularly good book, please do get in touch.

Our first recommendation is The Lies You Told Twice by Harriet Tyce (the author is currently in The Traitors) which is a psychological thriller about a mother and a barrister who navigates her way through treacherous school‑gate politics and a high‑stakes legal case.

Secondly, The Land in Winter by Andrew Miller is about two young married couples, one a village doctor and his wife, the other a farmer and his pregnant wife, who are grappling with unravelling relationships and hidden secrets during the brutal winter of 1962–63.

There are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak gives us three personal histories with Nineveh at their heart and it all begins with a rain drop that transcends time and follows the path of the Tigres all the way to the Thames.

Finally, The Women by Kristen Hannah which is an epic on women in the Vietnam War and the difficult life they came home to.

We will meet again on Tuesday 21st April  – if you would like to join us please contact Alison McGarr on 07792 107152.
